Table scrolls sideways
Alken has a medieval village centre with half-timbered houses and lanes, a promenade on the Moselle and vineyards right at the edge of the village. That is enough for a week, and the region around it for another.
Riesling from the Alken Burgberg, wine taverns and seasonal growers’ pubs are within walking distance. The village celebrates its winegrowers’ courtyard festival in August.
The twin-towered Thurant Castle is one kilometre away, Eltz Castle 14 km, plus Cochem, Bernkastel-Kues and Koblenz with the Deutsches Eck.
Three short “Traumpfädchen” trails of 3 to 5 km start close by. Add the Moselsteig, the Rheinburgenweg and the full-day “Traumpfade”.
Cycling along the Moselle, boat trips and strolls on the promenade. The vineyards turn colour in autumn and mist lies on the river in winter.
